Athough a senator for nine decades, Pardek associated too closely with the "common people," leaving himself ostracized by the Romulan political elite. However this association secured him the acceptance of Romulans who spoke out against the oppressive and rigidly conformist government of that day. In particular, Pardek was allowed into the inner circle of a widespread, underground movement which sought reunification with the people of Vulcan. This inner circle had as one of its prominent members the Federation ambassador Spock. Spock had chosen to dedicate his life to pursuing a Romulan—Vulcan reunification, living in obscurity on Romulus among others of the movement.
