The OIAF is a world-renowned event with an established international reputation for cutting-edge programming and an inviting, inclusive atmosphere. Unlike many festivals of similar size and caliber, the OIAF actively encourages participation from the general public and unites the artists, industry personnel, students and fans into one vibrant hub. The Festival’s reputation and success are in large part due to the community that it fosters between these various groups.

The OIAF is a major international event with an ever-increasing number of film submissions and attendees. The OIAF usually attracts 3500-4000 unique visitors, of which over 1100 are full Festival pass-holders. Total attendance ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 viewers. About 50% of the audience is from Canada, with 30% from the US and 20% from other countries.
