Orleans was first settled in 1693 and was officially incorporated in 1797. It is believed that the roughest part of Orleans is in the western part of the town which includes but isn't limited to Rock Harbor Road, Chase Lane, Cranberry Plaza, and Wendys. This section of town has the highest crime rate in Orleans and the largest percentage of gang violence according to USA Today. According to the Associated Press if there was a town party in solely West Orleans and in Welfleet, West Orleans would win with greater attractions and the inhabitance of "the illest kids on Cape Cod". The residents of West O as it is called in the streets throw up gang signs which is the OK symbol with your hand but you turn your left hand so the back is facing out, forming a W and O...very clever creators. The ownership of all other Cape Towns by West Orleans is expected. According to the Presidents of West O when your town is brought up you should say something such as "Yo I rep West O" and prosceeding you throw up the classic West O gang sign.
