The Order of Prince Edward Island, established in 1996, is the highest honour of the Province of Prince Edward Island. A maximum of 3 individuals are awarded annually. 1996 is a leap year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, and was designated the International Year for the Eradication of Poverty. ...



The Order recognizes individuals who have made a contributions to the social, economic and cultural life of the province.


Anyone presently living in Prince Edward Island, or former long-term residents of the province, is eligible to be considered for investiture in the Order. Elected federal, provincial or municipal representatives and members of the judiciary are not eligible for nomination while still holding office. Posthumous nominations are not accepted.
