Oklahoma's recorded history began in 1541 when Spanish explorer Coronado ventured through the area on his quest for the "Lost City of Gold." The land that would eventually be known as Oklahoma was part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase.
The governor of Oklahoma is Brad Henry; the lieutenant governor is Mary Fallin.
Oklahoma is bordered by six states: Texas to the south and west, Arkansas and Missouri to the east, Kansas to the north and Colorado and New Mexico at the tip of the northwestern Oklahoma panhandle.

Oklahoma's estate tax does not correspond to federal estate tax laws and the appropriate state return must be filed within nine months after death or interest will accrue on any due taxes.
