Encyclopedia > OFI FC

OFI, Omilos Filathlon Irakleiou, is a Greek 1st Division football club located in Heraklion, Crete. It is known mostly from his players that played abroad, Giannis Anastasiou, Nikos Machlas and Georgios Samaras, as well as the co-ownership of the team by the Vardinogiannis family that controls Panathinaikos, that results in humurous results in the matches against OFI and Panathinaikos, finding always Panathinaikos win. The only one who managed to change this situation, is Georgios Koutsoupias in 18/5/1997, by scoring a header and making the score 1-1 , resulting OFI to achieve the place that lead to UEFA Cup instead of Panathinaikos.
