North Miami Beach (commonly referred to as NMB) is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. Originally named "Fulford" in 1926 after Captain William H. Fulford of the United States Coast Guard. The city was incorporated in 1927 as Fulford and the city changed its name to North Miami Beach in 1931. The population was 40,786 at the 2000 census. The racial makeup of the city was 24.8% White, 39% African American, 0.29% Native American, 4% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 4.61% from other races, and 5.34% from two or more races. It was purchased by William Randolph Hearst in the 1920s, dismantled and shipped to the United States, and reassembled after Hearst's death in North Miami Beach in the 1950s.
