Governor's Mansion

The original governor's mansion was built in 1884 as private home for Asa Fisher. In 1893, the house was sold to the state for $5000. The house was used as the governor's residence from 1893-1960, and was the home to 21 governors. Current Governor's Residence

In 1955, The North Dakota legislature approved for a new 10,000 sq. ft. governors residence to be built because current governor C. Norman Brunsdale was living in a hotel during the winter because the governor's mansion was too cold. The residence was built in 1959 and completed in 1960.
