Wood turned professional in 1965 and played on the European Tour in the 1970s. His sole win on the European Tour came at the 1972 Italian Open. He also won the 1973 Jamaican Open. In 1975 he finished a career best eighteenth on the Order of Merit and played in the Ryder Cup, defeating Lee Trevino in his singles match.
