Book Description

In 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, the Despised One was raised from the Otherworld and Samantha Kane, that generation's Slayer, died while defeating it. Now in 1997, the Master is trying to have history repeat itself but this time with a different ending. The spirits of the people responsible for the rise of the Despised One in 1692 are now inhabiting the bodies of Buffy and her friends. Buffy must stop the ritual from happening or the Master will rise from his prison below Sunnydale.

Continuity

  • The book is supposed to be set in the summer after Buffy's first year at Sunnydale High.
  • The book breaks with established Buffy 'canon'. Buffy should be in LA during this time as explained in When She Was Bad. Furthermore the emotions of Buffy do not synchronise with those of Buffy at this time according to established 'canon'.
  • Does not fit into continuity of Prime Evil, since that book states that 'Crystal' not the Master was responsible for the Salem witch trials.

Plot Outline Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details about some or all of the Whedonverse productions (Buffy, Angel, Fray, etc. ...

Trivia

  • Tagline: 'The stage is set for a killer performance'.
  • The master hold responsibility for the Salem Witch Trials
