Recent development

Just seven hours after the initial announcement of the party, the party website reported over 3,000 new members. In the morning of 8 May, the number was 7,025.[7], and the same afternoon, the member count had risen to over 10,000 according to the party website.

On 8 May a poll said that 2 % of voters would "definitely" vote for the New Alliance while a further 9 % would "consider it". Most supporters were reported to come from other right-of-centre parties, as well as Det Radikale Venstre.[8] This would allow the party to surpass the election threshold of 2 % with high probability. Two polls published on 10 May said the New Alliance would get about 11 % or 16 % respectively, turning the new party into the third strongest fraction of the Folketing and making the governing coalition depend on it.[9] May 8 is the 128th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar (129th in leap years). ... Since two MPs of the coalition-supporting Danish People's Party left their fraction during the last weeks, for other reasons, prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's cabinet is now left with a parliamentary majority only two votes strong. There have been speculations whether the situation would trigger a quick election.
