Navy blue is an especially dark shade of the color blue. Some people mistake navy blue for black, especially when concerning clothing, most notably the navy blue pinstripes of the New York Yankees home uniform. Navy blue got its name from the dark blue (contrasted with white) worn by officers in the Royal Navy since 1748 and subsequently adopted by other navies around the world.
