Mystery Readers International is a fan/reader organization open to all readers, fans, critics, editors, publishers, and writers of Mystery fiction. It was founded by Janet A. Rudolph in Berkeley California.
It publishes the Mystery Readers Journal quarterly.
It presents the Macavity Award annually in several categories, including: Best Mystery Novel, Best First Mystery Novel, Best Bio/Critical Mystery Work, Best Mystery Short Story. The first awards were made in 1987.
MysteryReadersInternational bills itself as "the largest mystery fan/reader organization in the world." Founded by Janet A. Rudolph in Berkeley, California, it now has members in all 50 of the United States and in 22 foreign countries.
Because MRI covers all spectrums of the mystery genre, hardboiled and P.I. novels are not always in contention for awards.
MysteryReadersInternational also publishes The MysteryReaders Journal.
