Cornell College - Department of Classical and Modern Languages (338 words)
The educational philosophy of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages is essentially humanistic: through the mastery of a language different from those in which students have been raised, it is expected that students be able to understand the culture and history of the people who speak that language.
Modern language classes are taught in a communicative approach and almost entirely in the target language.
The classical languages are taught with more emphasis on Grammar and reading skills; several communication type activities, however, such as role-playing, games and theater performance are also implemented in order to use both the analytical functions in the left brain as well as the psychomotor, intuitive and social skills in the right hemisphere.
