Kaling graduated from Buckingham Browne & Nichols, a private school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1997 and was classmates with Alison Folland. At BB&N, Mindy served as the humor columnist for the school's newspaper, The Vanguard. Afterwards, she attended Dartmouth College and graduated in 2001. At Dartmouth, she was the president of the improvisational comedy troupe, the Dog Day Players.[1] In Spring 2003, she entered an absurdist original short play Matt and Ben in the New York International Fringe Festival, featuring herself as Ben Affleck, which she co-wrote and co-starred in with her college roommate, Brenda Withers. The play became an off-Broadway sensation, and was the only play to showcase at the prestigious U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in 2003. It was in this play that producer Greg Daniels took notice of her and, along with B.J. Novak and Paul Lieberstein, she was hired to write and have a feature role on the American version of The Office.
