Mike Allred is an American comic book artist and writer. He first rose to prominence with his work for small publishers including Slave Labor Graphics and Dark Horse Comics, especially for his character Madman. The Madman series later won a Harvey Award. He went on to gain further mainstream attention with the science-fiction/rock-and-roll comic Red Rocket 7 and his art for writer Peter Milligan's series X-Force, also known as X-Statix. His most recent work include The Golden Plates, an adaptation of The Book of Mormon, drawing X-Statix Presents: Deadgirl, and work on a new 'Madman' series. His wife, Laura, frequently works as his colorist. Allred's illustration style is heavily influenced by pop art and the commercial and comic book art of the 1950s and 1960s. Allred: As time goes on and other interests come, I realize that there are so many other stories and concepts that I want to get into that it's just not realistic for me to spend a huge chunk of my career doing Madman, and the time felt right with Red Rocket 7.
Allred: Right, which came from my original concept for The Being, a concept which was always associated with the plot in what is now Red Rocket 7.
Allred: The simplest way to explain it is that about 40 years ago, a man from another world came to our world for some mysterious reason.
