Compared with Outlook

Unlike the rest of the Microsoft Office suite, Entourage did not take the name of its Microsoft Windows counterpart. Entourage (especially the earliest versions) lacks some of the groupware functionality of Outlook when acting as a Microsoft Exchange Server client. Although Microsoft continues to improve Entourage's groupware capabilities with regular updates and service packs, some Exchange functionality is still only available via Microsoft Outlook. Such missing features include the "Out of Office Assistant", read receipts, and certain server side rules. If available, users can use Outlook Web Access in tandem with Entourage to bypass these limitations. Entourage is also unable to natively read Outlook Personal Folder files and cannot read archived emails without first re-importing them back into the main database. Microsoft has released a PST Import Tool for Entourage 2004 for Mac. However, this utility can only import PST files from Outlook 2001 for the Mac and is incompatible with any PST files created with Outlook for Windows. One can import an Outlook 2000 compatible PST to Outlook 2001 and then use the utility to import into Entourage. . ...

    Microsoft Outlook Express is an e-mail and news client bundled with certain versions of Microsoft Windows starting with Windows 95 OSR-2.
    Microsoft is also developing Windows Live Mail Desktop, a replacement for Outlook Express on Windows XP and Vista that will feature a super-set of Windows Mail's features.
    However, Microsoft has released a procedure for Windows XP which may be able to correct problems and restore access to e-mail messages without resorting to third party solutions using their Outlook Express Basic Repair Kit.
