The racial makeup of the county is 95.96% White, 1.54% Black or African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. 1.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,365 households out of which 37.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.50% are married couples living together, 8.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.80% are non-families. 21.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.09.
