Buffalo War Memorial Auditorium (formerly Civic Auditorium) is a 16,284-seat multi-purpose arena in Buffalo, New York. Nicknamed "The Aud", the arena opened in 1940 partly as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. It hosted the Buffalo Bravesbasketballteam and Buffalo Sabresice hockey team. The arena was expanded in 1971 to accomodate the Sabres, where in a flourish of engineering brilliance, the roof was raised and an upper deck added to the structure. The arena closed in 1995. However, the building is still extant and slated for reuse as a Bass Pro superstore as of 2005. It is one block away from the HSBC Arena, where all of its former functions relocated.
