McNett Township is a township located in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 211.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 87.5 km˛ (33.8 mi˛). 87.5 km˛ (33.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 211 people, 81 households, and 57 families residing in the township. The population density is 2.4/km˛ (6.2/mi˛). There are 191 housing units at an average density of 2.2/km˛ (5.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the township is 94.31% White, 3.79% African American, 0.95% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 81 households out of which 21.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% are non-families. 27.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.75.


In the township the population is spread out with 16.1% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 106.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.8 males.


The median income for a household in the township is $22,917, and the median income for a family is $23,068. Males have a median income of $24,750 versus $13,750 for females. The per capita income for the township is $10,556. 29.9% of the population and 24.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 37.0% of those under the age of 18 and 17.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

It is bounded on the east by McNett, on the north by Tioga county, on the west by Jackson, and on the south by Lewis township.
McNett and others petitioned the court praying that a new township might be set off from McIntyre, because the distance residents in the eastern part of the township bad to travel to attend the elections was too great.
