Lapierre played his first NHL game on November 15, 2005 against the Florida Panthers. That was the only NHL game he played that season. During the 2006-07 season, Lapierre was brought in to replace injured defenceman Mathieu Dandenault, and excelled, scoring three goals and one assist. He was subsequently returned to the Hamilton Bulldogs after Dandenault returned from his injuries. Lapierre was later recalled to the NHL, but when the Montreal Canadiens didn't make the playoffs, Lapierre was sent back to Hamilton to help the Bulldogs in the Calder Cup playoffs.
