Matt Barlow was the vocalist for the heavy metal band Iced Earth. Barlow joined Iced Earth after the "Night of the Stormrider" tour with Blind Guardian in Europe, as a replacement for John Greely. The first album Barlow can be heard on is "Burnt Offerings" (1995). He is considered by many to be the best vocalist Iced Earth had to date. He had left the band in 2003, much to the chagrin of many fans. His reasons for leaving was due to personal beliefs related to the September 11th terrorist attacks. He took a look at his life and realized that he wanted to contribute to the 'real world' instead of living the illusion of a "rock star". He approached Jon Schaffer with this in late 2002, but Schaffer, known for his persuasive personality, convinced Barlow to stay with the band. When the band recorded 'The Glorious Burden' Schaffer decided that Barlow's vocals were not what he desired them to be; he believed they lacked the passion and quality that Barlow was so famous for. Singer MatthewBarlow is gifted with a very diverse voice that has a range as wide as Geoff Tate's and can still pull off some serious growling on the faster numbers and some touching crooning on mellower numbers such as "Melancholy (Holy Martyr)".
Barlow also re-recorded old IE tracks on Days of Purgatory, and in my opinion, his renditions are far superior to those of the first two vocalists.
Matthew's voice totally carries this album throughout, especially on the searing "Wolf", which is probably his best song ever and will definitely be an arena favorite.
If Matthew 24 can be shown to contain references to two historical events -- the siege of Jerusalem in A.D. and the consummation of history at a future time, then those who have begun their trip down the road to preterism based upon this text should feel compelled to re-examine their destination.
One theme of Matthew's supported by the genealogy's structure is that of the importance of the inclusion of Gentiles in the Kingdom inaugurated by the Messiah's coming.
The reference to Noah in Matthew 24:37-38 seems to indicate that the coming of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah with respect to the unknowability of the timing of the event and the conduct of life as usual right up to the event.
