Matthew (Matt) Wayne Freije (born October 2, 1981, in Overland Park, Kansas) is an American professional basketball player, currently a free agent. He was selected 53rd overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, was then released and later played for the New Orleans Hornets. Holwerda is quick to add there is no bitterness or animosity aimed at Freije and the attention he commanded, on and off the court.
Probably no one on the team will be able to embody Freije’s presence on the court, but in preseason workouts the Commodores have convinced Stallings they’re ready to carry on without their superstar.
