The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is public library in San Jose, California, USA, that opened August 1, 2003. As of 2005, with over 475,000 square feet (44,000 m²) of space, it is the largest library building, built in a single construction project, west of the Mississippi River in the US. The King Library is both the main library for San Jose State University (SJSU) and the Main Branch of the City of San José Library System. San Jose's first public library occupied the same site from 1901 to 1936 (after moving from its second home in the second floor of the City Hall), and SJSU's Wahlquist Library occupied the site from 1961 to 2000, when it was torn down to begin construction of the King Library.
