Mark O'Connor (born August 5, 1961 in Seattle, Washington) is widely considered to be the most prominent fiddler of his generation. Although he started with guitar he switched to the fiddle at 11 and by age 14 had won three national championships. He has crossed musical boundaries, composing and recording not only bluegrass music but also classical and jazz, and has played alongside a wide variety of artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma, James Taylor, St├ęphane Grappelli, and Wynton Marsalis. He has also appeared in film soundtracks, such as John Williams's score to The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson.
