Mamaia is the biggest resort on the Romanian Black Sea shore. It is situated immediately north-east of Constanţa, Romania. Mamaia has almost no full time residents, being populated mostly during summer. Mamaia is 8 km (5 miles) in length and only 300 m (300 yards) in width, being a strip of land between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol. Map of the Black Sea. ...


Through major developments throughout the past couple of years, Mamaia has transformed itself into one of the great summer destinations of Europe. New five-star hotels and restaurants offer the best in lodging and cuisine. Mamaia is also the only resort in Europe to have the pure white sand only found in tropical places such as Hawaii.


The beach season is at its best between mid-May and late September, when average daytime temperatures are 25 to 30 degrees Celsius (78 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). The water is warm until late autumn.


Hotels range from mid-end (2 and 3 stars) to exclusive 4 and 5 stars hotels and private clubs.

Mamaia - Romania (383 words)
Mamaia is the biggest seaside tourism resort in Romania which has one of the most attractive touristic beaches from the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea Coast.
Coastal erosion is a particular problem at Mamaia, due to the Midia harbour extension dikes which act as a barrier to longshore currents running from north to south.
The aim of this study is to present the description of the Mamaia Beach, the eroding site and the solution adopted to protect beaches against erosion as well as the effects and lessons learned.
