MTV Sweden is a version of MTV Europe which serves the Swedish market. It started in Sepetmeber 2005 along with MTV Finland and MTV Norway. Part of MTV MTV Nordic’s regionally diversifying campaign which saw the launch of the first local MTV channel in the Nordic region - MTV Denmark in May 2005. MTV Nordic was the orginal local MTV channel for the Nordic and the Baltic countries, prior to this MTV Europe broadcasted in Northern Europe. MTV Nordic replaced MTV European in June 5 1998 while MTV Nordic ceased broadcasting on September 17 2005 replaced by four new MTV channels. The MTV Sweden’s programming is broadcasted from the MTV Networks Europe headquaters in London to Sweden; (due to strict licencing laws in Sweden which are also found in the Republic of Ireland and other European countries). MTV employes more than 60 people at its local office and studio in Stockholm, Sweden. Who deal with the day to day runnings of the channel promoting a Swedish feel to the channel. MTV Sweden first launched with some local programming including Celsius ( a daily top 10 viewers chart) but recently with a revamp of the channel in October 27, 2006 – it has produced more local programming plus a new wesbite in Swedish found at www.mtv.se. Notable MTV presenters from Sweden include Lars, Uricka, Kiki (no-longer on MTV) and more recently new additions with the recent revamp include Nanna with the addition of another 3 presenters. MTV Sweden present the Best Swedish Act award at the annual MTV Europe Music Awards, since 2005. Sweden hosted the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm. MTV Swedens’ programming and channel identity has been designed by Stylewar. MTV Sweden is part of MTV Networks Nordic a division of MTV Networks UK, Ireland & Nordic which is operated by MTV Networks Europe.
