In 2006, mc chris made an effort to distance himself from the flourishing "[nerdcore]" movement. The press kept at it, often including mc in articles and blogs about the rise of nerdcore. On his rise to lukewarm success, mc befriended many nerdcore artists such as Mc Lars, Mc Frontalot and Optimus Rhyme. Feeling slighted by being pigeon-holed as a "nerdcore artist," in 2007 mc lashed out against the nerdcore genre. Afraid that he would continue to be likened to the flourishing nerdcore movement, he cut ties with nerdcore artists who were his friends and colleagues. Most notable, mc was to play a show in Seattle with hip hop hometown heroes Optimus Rhyme. The show was to be a cd release party for Optimus Rhyme's latest album. Again fearing that by doing the show with nerdcore artists mc would be attributed to nerdcore... mc's resolution to this was to cut Optimus Rhyme from the bill (an event that mc denies ever happened.) Optimus Rhyme retorted with the diss track MC Chipmunk, a stab at their former friend.

This same scenario almost happened again when mc openly (in his blog) disputed whether or not to cancel a show in Colorado with nerdcore artist Ytcracker.

On April 1st, 2008 mc chris advertised his Nintendo Wii friend code on a MySpace bulletin. The code is 3050 7592 3605. Many have thought this to be an April Fools Day joke, but it's actually not his Wii Friend code, but his Super Smash Bros. Brawl friend code. Super Smash Bros. ...
