Drove to Holiday Haven Campground and RV Park on Prince Edward Island (PEI) via the Confederation Bridge, completed in 1997 with private finance although it has to be handed over to Canada after 35 years.
In winter the Northumberland Strait which separates the island from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia freezes over, and there are great pictures in the visitor centre of the ice boats by which people used to make the journey in the not-so-distant past.
The island's red soil is absolutely ideal for growing potatoes, to the extent that they have a museum dedicated to them in the town of O'Leary...
