The alignment of the branch has been altered for several times to reduce the impact to Long Yuen, a major wetland area near the border where is a paradise for migrating birds.
It consists of a bored tunnel from Sheung Shui across Long Yuen, and rises at Chau Tau as viaducts to Lok Ma Chau station.
