A product of the West Bromwich Albion youth system, he failed to make a major impact on the first team, and spent time on loan to various clubs. Whilst not cementing a regular first team starting place, Dyer still played a large part in West Brom's promotion back to the premiership at the first time of asking. His exciting and pacey substitute appearances often inspired the team. He went on loan to Queens Park Rangers. He eventually left West Bromwich Albion for Millwall during the Summer 2005 transfer window before being released a few months later for personal reasons. Lloyd Dyer joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer from local neighbours Aston Villa in 1999/2000.
Dyer made his debut for Albion in the 3-1 Worthington Cup defeat of Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium in October 2002.
After Dyer’s contract ran out in the summer of 2004, on August 13th 2004, Albion confirmed that Lloyd Dyer had signed a two year contract with a one year option in the club’s favour.
