Even though McClarnon loved to sing as a child, she never imagined that it would become her career. She wanted to study law after secondary school, but her music teacher was impressed by her singing abilities and arranged her to take part in an audition by Andy McCluskey, who wanted to set up a girl band. In 1997 McClarnon became one of the original members of Atomic Kitten and she co-wrote many of the songs during her time in the girl group. She is the only original member of Atomic Kitten due to the other two leaving; Heidi Range was replaced by Natasha Hamilton by 1998, and Kerry Katona was replaced by Jenny Frost in 2001. After Atomic Kitten took a break, McClarnon was signed to EMI records. On February 13, 2006 McClarnon released her first solo single, a cover of Barbra Streisand's 1980 hit Woman in Love. The track has been produced by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees who also wrote the original version[3] and whom she accompanied on his 2005 tour.[4] A video has been shot and released and features McClarnon in a Manhattan apartment, but it is actually filmed in McClarnon's home town of Liverpool. It was decided to release the single as a double A-side with Jackie Wilson's I Get the Sweetest Feeling.
