Encyclopedia > List of professional wrestling finishing maneuvers

A finishing maneuver or finisher is a wrestler's trademark move; one that they rely upon most of the time to end a match. For the past few decades, virtually every professional wrestler has their own finishing move, usually with a name that suits the wrestler's gimmick. The finisher may simply be a glorified version of a move that other wrestlers use as a regular maneuver, or it may be an innovative attack that no one else had executed before. Regardless, if a wrestler is scripted to lose a match after receiving a finisher, they will sell that move as if it is the most damaging attack in their opponent's arsenal. In professional wrestling, a gimmick is a wrestlers personality, behavior, attire and/or other distinguishing traits while performing. ... In professional wrestling, the sell is the element of making the action appear to be at least somewhat realistic to the crowd, or at least the marks within the crowd. ...
