Lincoln is a town in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on the Canterbury Plains to the west of Banks Peninsula, 22 kilometres south of Christchurch.


It is the site of Lincoln University.

Lincoln University is New Zealand's second newest university, formed in 1990 when Lincoln College, Canterbury was made independent of the University of Canterbury.
Lincoln University began life in 1880 as the Lincoln School of Agriculture.
From 1961 to 1990, it became Lincoln College, a constituent college of the University of Canterbury, until achieving autonomy in 1990 as Lincoln University.

The initial New Zealand trials on wasabi were established in large concrete troughs filled with rock and gravel similar to the tatami ishi wasabi beds of Shizuoka, Japan.
New ornamentals obtained in South America such as some Begonia, Ennealophus, Fuchsia, and Tibouchina species which are new to New Zealand are evaluated for growth habit, flowering behavior, and postharvest shelf life to estimate their potential as cut flowers or potted plants.
The program is new and open-ended in relation to identifying new opportunities and although many of the crops under investigation have not been previously grown in New Zealand, we believe the approach will see many of them become established industries in the future.
