Le Délit français, also simply known as Le Délit, is an independent francophone newspaper on the McGill University campus, in Montreal, Quebec. It is a sister publication to the English-language McGill Daily and, as such, is published by the Daily Publications Society (DPS). Le Délit was created in 1977 to provide a voice for francophone students at McGill University, an English-speaking institution. As of Fall 2003, 19.6% of the student body at McGill had declared French as their mother-tongue. 1977 was a common year starting on Saturday (the link is to a full 1977 calendar). ... In its early days, the newspaper was called Le McGill Daily français but the name was soon changed to Le Délit, owing to an evident play-on-words. In French, the word délit actually means offense or misdemeanor.


Le Délit is published every Tuesday, during the Fall and Winter terms.
