About Lahey Clinic

When he founded a group practice in 1923, Dr. Lahey’s vision was unique: The provision of every part of a patient's health care beneath one roof. Today, Lahey Clinic still offers a distinctive patient experience although it is so large that there are now many roofs. Lahey has a longstanding culture of specialized teams directly available to individual patients, and a work ethic that combines the highest competence with the utmost compassion[1].

Capabilities

At Lahey Clinic, more than 480 physicians and 4,600 nurses, therapists and other support staff work together to provide patient care and superior outcomes. The Clinic's multidisciplinary approach allows patients’ access to preeminent physicians from virtually every medical specialty, which cooperates to develop personalized treatment plans for each patient[1].

From advanced technology to research and medical education, Lahey Clinic combines the renowned specialty resources of its medical centers with top-quality primary care services at community-based practices throughout northeastern Massachusetts[1].

Facilities

Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 293-bed hospital. Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, in Peabody, serves more than 800 outpatients each day and includes a 10-bed hospital. Both feature 24-hour emergency departments. An American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center exists at the Burlington facility[1].

Some patients travel long distances to benefit from techniques pioneered by Lahey surgeons. The Cerebrovascular Disease Center is among the most advanced in the region for the treatment of strokes and brain aneurysms. The Liver Transplantation Team was the first in New England to perform adult living-donor transplant procedures. In addition, surgeons are using minimally invasive laparoscopic methods, reducing the surgical recovery time for conditions such as kidney disease and bladder cancer[1].

The Heart and Vascular Center at Lahey Clinic is one of the largest in the region. Through partnerships with local hospitals, Lahey physicians are providing New England communities with expertise in advanced cardiology services such as angioplasty and electrophysiology, and helping to train other physicians.

Lahey Clinic Medical Center is a teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine[2]. In addition, many of our physicians hold teaching assignments at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. The Clinic maintains residency and fellowship programs for more than 130 new physicians in multiple subspecialties[1][2]. The Tufts University School of Medicine is one of the eight schools that comprise Tufts University. ...

As a research center, Lahey Clinic offers patients access to clinical trials of new therapies for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and cataracts. Research programs at Lahey Clinic encompass more than 200 clinical trial protocols and participation in numerous national and international studies.
