Born in the lineage of an illustrious disciple of the great saint composer Shri Tyagaraja, Lalgudi Krishnan began his early lessons on the violin at the age of five, under the tutelage of his grandfather and guru Shri Lalgudi Gopala Iyer, and later from Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman.
The artiste in Krishnan first came into public view with his debut in 1973, at the young age of thirteen.
