Henry III of Navarre became Henry IV of France and thereafter the crown of Navarre passed to the kings of France. In 1620, the Kingdom was merged into France, although the French kings continued to use the title of King of Navarre until 1791, and it was revived from 1814 to 1830 during the Restoration.

After conquering (c.101525) the territories of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza from the Moors, he took possession of Castile, Vizcaya, and Alava (1028) as his wife's inheritance from her deceased brother, the count of Castile, for whom he had been protector since 1017.
Navarre passed to GarcIa; Castile and AragOn, made into kingdoms, went respectively to Ferdinand I and Ramiro I; Sobrarbe and Ribagorza, joined as a separate kingdom, were given to Gonzalo.
