Karuna Amman was the second highest commanding officer of the LTTE who broke away due to Tigers' attacks on civilians in Batticaloa, corruption within LTTE and the recruitment of child soldiers. His departure was of a heavy blow to the LTTE as they lost all rebel control in Eastern Sri Lanka. Further all his cadres are presently engaged in an internal battle with the Wanni LTTE group. Many prominent LTTE leaders has been killed or assissinated by the Karuna group. All residents of Batticaloa were seen celebrating and burning pictures of Velupillai Prabakharan in March 2004 on the day of the fall out with the Wanni Tigers. However, the Sri Lankan government remains control of most of the Eastern coast of the island. Image File history File links Stop_hand. ... Image File history File links ParamilitaryKaruna. ...
