Kajira is the term for "slave-girl" in John Norman's Gor novels. Slaves in the Gorean lifestyle will refer to themselves as kajirae. The phrase la kajira is said to mean "I am a slave-girl" in the Gorean language, the most widely-spoken lingua franca in the known regions of the planet Gor (this is almost the only complete Gorean-language sentence given in the Gor novels). According to the Gorean philosophy, all women are natural slaves. As slaves, or Kajira, they are naturally submissive to their male counterparts. This extreme form of submission is evident in all events of life, from speaking to punishment to sexual interaction. For example, Kajira can be stripped completely naked and made to walk around or severely beaten for only to show their power. However, Goreans claim such abuse does not occur, because they value their property and affirm that it is the natural order of humanity. Profile of Kajira Djoumahna (1750 words)
Kajira's demeanor was earthy, connected, pleasant, approachable- not the least bit diva-like such as one might expect from someone of her stature in the belly dance world.
Kajira was enchanted by its power, strength and unity, so much so that she made a commute of over 90 minutes, one or two times a week for eight years in order to take lessons with Carolena Nericcio, the founder of FatChanceBellyDance.
Kajira encourages others to take these moves and "make them your own." She feels that this is one of the exciting aspects of teaching workshops all over the country; seeing people take the basics and expand on them.
