Born in Bath, England, Lynn studied Law at the University of Cambridge (where his uncle, Israeli statesman Abba Eban studied also), where he participated in the Cambridge University Footlights Club revue Cambridge Circus, but by the 1960s was appearing in and writing television sitcoms.
