Jarvis Christian was the brainchild of the Negro Disciples of Christ in Texas and the Christian Woman’s Board of Missions.
Jarvis College’s original mission, “to keep and maintain a school for the elevation and education of the Negro race, to educate the head, heart, and hand and to produce useful citizens and earnest Christians,” has not changed, although the direction of the educational programs has changed dramatically since its founding.
