JacquesPerrin first became known to French and international mainstream audiences as an actor.
Before long, a variety of other, very dissimilar film directors including Pierre Schoendoerffer, Costa Gavras, Jacques Ruffio and Jacques Demy were casting him in their films, in which he came to epitomize the young romantic lead—army lieutenant, Prince Charming or dashing young sailor—for a whole generation of movie-goers.
JacquesPerrin’s interest in the very special domain of wildlife films dates back to 1983, when he invited Gérard Vienne, director of The Territory of Others and The Claw and the Tooth, to direct his production of The Monkey Folk, a movie that investigates the ancestral mythology of mankind.
Perrin began his career as a romantic cinematic hero in such films as La Ragazza con la Vaglia annd Cronaca Familiare in which he starred as Marcello Mastroianni's brother.
Perrin has had a long-time association with the director Costa Gavras and was thrust into the international spotlight with his leading role in the seminal political thriller Z, which Perrin also produced.
Perrin has also worked with Claude Chabrol in The Demarcation Line, Jacque Demy in The Young Girls of Rochefort and Donkey Skin and Pierre Schoendoerffer in The 317 th Section and L'Honnuer d'un Capitain.
