Jack White was a Scottishgolfer. He was born at Pefferside, four miles east of North Berwick on 15 August 1873. He was the son of an agricultural labourer and worked as a caddie from the age of ten. Like many early professionals he trained as a clubmaker. From his late teens he worked as a golf professional at North Berwick in the summer and at York Golf Club in England in the winter. He first played in The Open Championship in 1892 and in 1904, when it was played at Royal St. George's he won it for the first and only time. He was the professional at the prestigious Sunningdale Golf Club outside London for over twenty five years from 1902. He died in 1949 at Gullane, East Lothian.
