The name "Ivy Tech" derives from an initialism (IV Tech) of the original name for the school, Indiana Vocational Technical College. Ivy Tech Vocational Technical College was established in 1963 to provide technical and vocational education for various industries. Ivy Tech's name was officially changed to Ivy Tech State College in 1995. Ivy Tech was rechartered in 2005 to become a system of community colleges named Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana under the coordination of Indiana's two-hundred-year-old two-year university, Vincennes University. Now Ivy Tech is in the process of transforming into a full-service community college that offers Associates Degrees in arts & design, business, general education, health sciences, public services, and technology. Ivy Tech offers degree programs at 23 campuses around Indiana.
