ISNA – The First Students News Agency

STUDENT NEWS AGENCY can be introduced in the category of STUDENT MEDIA. Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA,http://isna.ir/ ) which has been established in 1998* in Iran is the first student news agency in the world and should be recognized as unique and first of its kind . As well as issues important to students, it also reports on national topics. This news agency is run by students and it has been well-known for its innovative approach to reporting unbiased and up-to-date news. Editors and correspondents are themselves students in a Variety of subjects, many of them are volunteers (nearly 1000).

In recent years,ISNA has had a great influence on Iranian media so that after ISNA more than three other news agencies( FARS, ILNA, MEHR ) were established .

ISNA has also been ranked number one in many aspects of news in Iran, while its budget has been only around five percent of IRNA .

All ISNA services are available to the public free of charge, so its site is so popular and it acts such as a mass media.

ISNA has also introduced for the first time local news agencies in Iran, providing relevant and important information to different provinces of the country. This provides a unique opportunity for local students in each province to manage their news and be more involved in giving awareness to important issues.

In a country which is still developing, ISNA has enabled Iranian students to play an important role in the social-political culture, and are regarded by many as a powerful influence in modern Iranian society.

It seems ISNA can be regarded as a new era and an effective method to improving the media industry in Iran. More over, it is very likely that this model of News agency (student news agency) will be replicated in some countries in the future.
