In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (a.k.a.Heart of the Beast or HOTB) is a puppet company from Minneapolis, Minnesota. HOTB began in 1973 as Powderhorn Puppet Theatre, named for a neighborhood park and lake in Minneapolis, and changed their name in 1979. In 1987 they moved into the Avalon Theater, a former cinema that HOTB purchased in 1990 for the building and staging of productions. The company has weitten and performed scores of full-length puppet plays, toured the Mississippi River from end to end, and is most well-known for their annual May DayParade that is seen by as many as 35,000 people each year.
