It was released as a single and gave Girls Aloud their second UK number-one hit, selling 57,597 copies in its first week of release and staying at the top for two weeks. In the UK it has sold 160,000 copies, making it Girls Aloud's 4th biggest selling single there, and the proceeds went to charity. It stayed in the UK top forty for nine weeks, and it was ranked thirty-fourth on the year-end chart (see 2004 in British music). The video for Girls Aloud's version of "I'll Stand by You" begins with each member of the band lying or sitting motionless in a parched desert. At the song's climax, a thunderstorm begins, and the band members come together and stand in a circle.
