The west peak is dominated by double black diamonds, the most challenging runs on any given mountain. These runs are very steep and because of the nature of snow and skiing in the northeast, often become virtual ice sheets. The eastern portions of the ski area are populated with mostly blues and greens, which range from intermediate to easy.


Hunter is well known for their snow making prowess, and has been called (possibly only by Hunter Mountain marketing) “The Snow Making Capitol of the World.” [1]. Hunter has 60+ miles of snow making pipe, with a snow making of 40 tones of snow per minute. In a typical season they convert half a billion gallons of water into snow. Since its inception, Hunter has been at the forefront of snow making technology.
