The movie centers on a Pittsburgh native Kevin Franklin (Sinbad) who owes $50,000 to the mob. After being caught by the mobsters trying to skip town at the airport, he ovehears a conversation between Gary Young (Hartman) and two of his children. Franklin hears Young say that he is waiting for his friend who is a black man. In a hurry, Franklin decides to pose as the man that Young had come to pick up. The man that Franklin ends up posing as is a well known, straight-laced, vegetarian dentist named Derek Bond. In the long run, Franklin's unstable nature actually helps to create stability within the dysfunctional Young family. In the end, he wins over the hearts of the Young family, even though he has lied about his identity. Trumpet and piano appear on the occasional song, but most arrangements use only the lead guitar and synthesizer; the best thing to be said about the songs, though, is that they sound much bigger than their instrumentation – fairly bare bones verses suddenly give way to towering choruses.
All in all, Talking Time is remarkably consistent, especially considering that this is HouseguestÂ’s first album and their history, as far as I can tell, consists of playing a handful of shows in their native Ohio.
Houseguest deserve better than to be tagged as either, and Talking Time deserves an audience receptive to it on its own terms.

Houseguest is a very famous "populist rock" band from Akron, Ohio.
It was recorded and produced by Patrick Carney of the Black Keys at the Eagle's Nest in the Spring of 2006.
I was watching Requiem for a dream the other night and thinking "if houseguest had done the soundtrack, this movie could've been a classic".
